About Paul Banks
Manchester Scene Stories began as a passion project documenting the people, places and stories that shaped Manchester’s music and club culture.
Since 2024, I have interviewed more than 140 DJs, musicians, clubbers, promoters and cultural figures, preserving first-hand accounts of the city’s rich musical history.
The project has since expanded into a series of books, live events and talks, helping ensure these stories are recorded and shared for future generations.
Whether it’s the Haçienda, Northern Soul, Indie, Hip Hop, Jungle, Jazz or Reggae, Manchester Scene Stories is dedicated to telling the stories behind the people who made the city what it is.

Why Manchester Scene Stories Exists
In this interview, I talk about how the sudden death of my mum in 2018, living with PTSD, and discovering EFT tapping eventually led me to create Manchester Scene Stories. What began as a way of reconnecting with people became a project dedicated to preserving Manchester’s cultural history through interviews, books and live events.
